Remove metadata from an image
Lossless mode strips metadata without touching a single pixel. Re-encode mode also works but re-compresses the image.
Questions
What's the difference between the two modes?
Lossless mode edits the file container directly and changes zero pixels — the fastest, safest option for JPG and PNG. Re-encode mode decodes and re-compresses the image, which also removes metadata but introduces the same small quality trade-off as any re-encode.
Will stripping EXIF make my image appear sideways?
Not by default. An image taken sideways is stored sideways and relies on a single EXIF Orientation tag to display upright, so removing all of EXIF would tip it over in every viewer. Lossless mode keeps a minimal EXIF block containing only that tag — no GPS, no camera model, no timestamps — and tells you on the page when it has done so. You can turn that off if you want nothing at all.
Does lossless mode really change no pixels?
Yes. It edits the file's container — dropping whole JPEG APP segments or PNG metadata chunks — and copies the compressed image data through untouched. Decoding the original and the cleaned file gives byte-identical pixels.
